Heloisa Maia

As Tereza de Arruda, curator and art critic from Berlin, describes her work: "Her paintings intend to represent a state of mind through specific means, such as colors and unusual shapes, passing over a resistance against a faithful representation of reality. The essential is picked up through basic elements as color, effects and reduction of the elements to strong lines. The big surfaces refer to emotional characteristics emphasized by drawings and sharp profiles.”

Working most of the time with paintings and drawings in large formats, Heloisa does not create her human figures out of living models, but from a feeling or a sensation that she wants to portray in that moment. The artist says about her work "everything starts with the color. Then the form comes, and the line starts a big dialogue. That is how my creative process works”.

Heloisa lives and works in Miami where she moved in 2017.
